Southampton Football Club is a professional association football club based in Southampton, Hampshire.

Their home ground since 2001 has been St Mary's Stadium, before which they were based at The Dell. The club has been nicknamed "The Saints" since its inception in 1885 due to its history as a church football team, founded as St. Mary's Church of England Young Men's Association, and play in red and white shirts. Southampton has a long-standing rivalry with Portsmouth due to its close proximity and both cities' respective maritime history. Matches between the two sides are known as the South Coast derby.

The club has won the FA Cup once, in 1976, and their highest-ever league finish was second in the First Division in 1983–84. Southampton were relegated from the Premier League on 15 May 2005, ending 27 successive seasons of top-division football for the club. They returned after a seven-year absence, and have played there ever since.

Wooaahhhh Mario lemina

Matt Mcmanus Ben Orchard

Hasenhüttl on Newcastle defeat

Comment on Facebook

Watch the full interview with Southampton FC boss Ralph Hasenhüttl:

Ralph not happy, hard work in training tomorrow.

Jack Stephens😂😂 what a pile of wank

His record is excellent this was a bad day it happens

Any news on Valery?? Fit for Watford ? Bournemouth ?

When we have a corner, why do we only have one person who stays back? We have been hit too many times by fast counter attacks this season and not learned our lesson.

We were poor tonight. Very disappointing. Have to bounce back v Watford mid week

Not your fault much ralph. Keep your head up for Tuesday and Watford Away

You are not kidding not their best performance , now for the 6 hour drive back.

He is good looking though

Was hoping for a draw at least. Sort defence out ASAP

A win at Watford please

Kris Holden love the way he says it how it was. No messing. No excuses.

Played well, such a shame about Yoshidas missed goal

Totally outplayed.

Sell Simms and Stephens NOW

Everytime WE get a corner we manage to turn attack into defense!! Severe lack of pace at the back

Sort it out Ralph

A very bad performance,Alfie Bowe could have done better 😊😊

Not good enough today, not good enough all season full stop!

I quite fancy him

Should never be that bad again if so pack your bags and cebrate at the end of the season when you have a cheived something.

No Long, no goals

That was a bad one.

Another backwards step ...

An afternoon to forget... 😤

Mario Lemina scores on his return, but Saints have no points to show for their efforts. Our report from St James' Park:

2nd half played well but really not effective

All is not lost, we performed much better in the second half. Hopefully we can go to Watford and get a result on Tuesday evening with them having one eye on the cup final. Leminas return performance is a huge boost and hopefully will prove a catalyst until the end of the season.

Not good I never expected we would lose at all really but to have 3 scored against not good this stage of the season!

A match to forget... But welcome back to Lemina 👍😀 and please use Armstrong from start 🔴⚪️🔴⚪️ All behind the team

They played well and showed spirit second half

Team selection poor game lost by halftime again! Second half good but too much work to be done. Ings poor only plays a third of the season at best, might as well sign Sturridge and 2 more physios

Never have good history at st James’. We are probably safe but saints never make it easy

You deserve at least 3 goal today, unluckily is not, last half tries was awesome, next time better luck 👍

Simms and Stephens nowhere near good enough. The rest are mediocre at best.

Yoshida was excellent, two shots on target, pretty good for a centre back!

You can not win every match. Relax

Great second half. Safety not a problem I say.

We lost to a better team today... chin up guys, next match SAINTS will perform to win. Keeping my fingers cross. SAINTS FOREVER....

Ings back to Liverpool please.

Start against Watford like you did in the second half please

Irrespective of the result, Franny showing Carragher how to be an impartial commentator!

Yoshida was our best player by far.

Never want to see Stephens in our shirt again.

When we win most say nothing only come out when we lose, support the team good or bad

Flattering for Newcastle poor first half gifted them the lead, Ralph showed his frustration good second half jammy 3rd goal sealed it for the home team full of local talent??

Love how Ralp runs his mouth about being able to pick up maximum points from our remaining games but then loses to a team of little or no quality like Newcastle 😂😂 get rid of him ASAP with his clueless tactic swapping every 2 minutes

644miles round trip for that mess of a defence well worth it

Give ings back to liverpool putting prowse in the wrong position what is wrong with manager

Only positive is Lemini is back

Stephens playing, oh dear, The oak tree on the bench 🙄get well soon Alex

Jack Stephens... night all see you in the morning.... 🙈🙈

Saints now struggled against a very better Newcastle side with their best striker Perez scoring two goals in three minutes!

Good side. Vestergaard injured. I fancy we'll get at least a draw, yet a win would confirm safety, I feel. I want to be able to cheer Cardiff on against Liverpool! 😂

Yes perfect team

Welcome back Forster 😍😍😍😍

Love this strip.

Very hard match. Benitz put a stronger team same as last week when they beat Leicester City against us. I hope they will not do the same as last week.

Where Valary??

Nice to see Forster back on the bench

Good line up... going for the win...👍

Keeping same formations prowsey as wing back bonus to have lemina back Brighton drew so no pressure

1-0 Newcastle. Perez scores

Saints playing like a bag of Nuts and Bolts. We are Not Safe from Relegation!!!!
